Arsenal head into tomorrows game with 5 first team players on the injury list: William Gallas, Manuel Almunia, Eduardo, Alex Song and Andrey Arshavin. This opens the door for Sol Campbell to make his champions league debut this season. Starting both Silvestre and Vermaelen gives us 2 left footed centre backs, and i don’t think that’s an ideal situation, a problem Wenger acknowledges.
It is a possibility that I don’t rule out at the moment because if he [Campbell] doesn’t play there it would mean you play with two left-footed players [Vermaelen and Mikael Silvestre] that I don’t really like.
Porto are on a 12 match unbeaten run and hardly ever lose at the dragao, but they have their own injury crisis to address and hopefully we can capitalise on that.
Here’s the list of the players who made the trip for tomorrow’s game.
In other news, the premier league is thinking about a playoff system for teams that finish 4th-7th, to determine the final champions league spot. In my opinion this just robs the league of any credibility, if finishing 4th after a gruelling 38 game season isn’t a testament to the quality of that team, i don’t know what is. Of course this same system is in play in the championship, but it’s for qualification into the premier league and that’s totally different. The premier league also risks lowering its European coefficient, which in turn reduces the number of spots england could be awarded from 4 to 3. It’s a stupid idea and of course the teams with the most to lose (Arsenal, United, City, Liverpool and Chelsea), naturally oppose it. Well should it pass, it won’t be in effect for another 3 years.
‘Til Tomorrow, Come On You Reds!!!
